Well Day six is over. Practice in the morning was pretty tame compared to the rest of the week. It’s definitely winding down time for the camp. The girls are visibly tired, a bit anxious about the games and some are worried about the possibility of being selected for the “all star” game.
I reported on the games via twitter and as a whole I will say the u17 games were much better than the 16′s. For some reason the 17′s actually played hockey, with crisp passing, unselfish play, and all around energy and determination. The 16′s were pretty much the opposite. I can’t quite figure out why.
Anyway, the “all-star” rosters were announced to the girls back at the dorms and the game will be played tomorrow. I probably won’t be reporting the games tomorrow but they should be up on USAH later in the day. Over the week, lots of pictures were taken and unfortunately I just didn’t have the internet bandwidth at my hotel to get them uploaded in a reasonable amount of time. I’ll be uploading them after I get back to home base. Additionally, I’ll be writing a wrap-up friday summarizing the good, bad and ugly from my perspective of the camp this year. After which, I” be reporting the best I can from the U15/U14 camp in Rochester later in July.

Its funny how 14 Minnesota girls (including 2 SSM Girls) made the All-Star game. Also there were certain players that didnt play all week and they made the “all-star” team. Its a shame that USA hockey didnt look at the big picture when picking that team.
Or maybe they did …. Perhaps Minnesota hockey is that much better, and perhaps knowing the girls that were injured and couldn;t participate fully during the week lead them to the decision that these were the best girls for the all-start team. BTW, I have no affiliation with Minnesota hockey and my daughter was not selected for the all-start game.
As a spectator at many of these events, and after talking to many D1 coaches to confirm my opinion, I can assure you that being from MN doesn’t make you better or worse than any other girls at the camp. Each year USAH is looking for something different and selects for the All-Star game based on that.. For those that think the All-Star game was made up of all the “best” girls at the camp, they would be mistaken. I will comment more in my upcoming summary.
Will the girls that played in the “All-Star” game be the only girls invited to U18 Tryout camp in August?
Doubt it. I’m hearing they will invite 40 girls to the camp, then make a cut to 22 and a final cut to 20. I would expect quite a few from the U17/U16 camp, a few that weren’t there, and they historically ask a few from the U15 camp.
GC2 – Will all your pics be posted at some point? Thanks for maintaining this site. Helps us that weren’t able to make it keep up to date!
Yes, I’m redoing the pictures and will post them all soon. Almost finished with my summary as well.
