USAH U17/U16 – Day 3 Summary + D4 Schedule

Day 3 activities for the morning ice session consisted of a mix of power skating and puck handling drills.  Power skating made up for the first 20 minutes with the rest of the session a progression of basic puck handling in place to movement, to movement around obstacles.  The morning sessions were single team full sheet for 1 hour.  The afternoon sessions were shared ice sessions lasting 1.5hrs each.  The theme of these sessions were offensive zone attack and shooting progressions from small area to full ice by the time the drills were complete.  Most teams finished with 20 minutes of full ice scrimmage or small games.

General observations:  After 3 days I stand by my earlier comment that this camp is much better from an on ice standpoint than what I observed last year.  Might be the right balance between skill development and games but only time will tell.  I also notice the on-ice sessions seem more intense and the difficulty has been raised over last year.  I don’t know this for sure but it sure feels that way.

Additionally, It seems the trainers are getting a workout this year.  I don’t think I’ve seen so many girls nursing minor injuries at previous camps.  Lots of ice bags seen after practices.

Day 4 brings the beginning of the competition schedule and probably an increase in the number of observers.  This afternoon there was a notable increase in observers over the previous days but up until now nowhere near the numbers seen in Rochester.  We shall see what tomorrow brings.
