Day 4 – Morning

The theme for the morning sessions is shooting.  The 16′s and 15′s pretty much did the same drills this morning.  The warm-ups consisted of about 30 minutes of skating. Full ice at speed following the circles, center ice only circles, etc. This was followed by breaking into 4 stations to work on shooting.  One group did passing and one-timers, another did cone skating then wrist shots where the puck had to be on the front of the blade through the cones (thus requiring body movement more than stick work), another did shoot and followup for rebounds, and the final group did high curls and and quick shots.  Stations were rotated so everyone did all drills.  The next section of practice continued the shooting theme but involved at speed/overspeed skating, passing and shooting.  Full ice, lots of motion, definitely keeping the girls working on the ice.  The practice concluded with about 15-20 minutes of small games (3vs3.  Some coaches used cross ice, others pulled the nets to the blue lines.

Random:  Nice to see the coaches working individually with the players.  There seems to be at least 5 coaches on the ice for the dual team practices.

Next up:  This afternoon the 16′s are not on the ice.  They do off-ice in the early afternoon and attend a sports nutrition lecture in the evening.  The 15′s have games.
