It really misleading to say there was a morning and afternoon session from the sense of the spectator. Given there are only 2 rinks being used, the final teams from the morning sessions finish and the first teams from the afternoon session follow right after. Of course the snack bar is open but it’s nice go step out and enjoy some of the local fare.
Afternoon sessions primarily consisted of defensive concepts (1v1, 2v2, 3v3, etc.), breakouts, some drills, and small games. The last 15 minutes or so the teams did 5v5 full ice. Two teams shared one ice session at a time and were on ice for 90 minutes. All sessions (15&16) were pretty similar in the drills although I think they inserted a few more basic drills for the 15′s (I didn’t see the 16′s doing them but I might have missed it). At first glance these drills seemed simple but they progressed in difficulty. One I remember in particular was “skating around the tires” with the puck. I think I have a photo somewhere showing it. Of course it’s a pretty simple drill but they added a bit of a twist as they progressed (one foot turns, one foot hops around the turns, etc). During this one drill it became painfully obvious who some of the strong and weak skaters were.
Random: The USAH camp merchandise store opened at 1 today and was seriously depleted out in about and hour. I don’t think many of the girls got a chance to get anything but they did say they were restocking. Tomorrow morning is puck handling, should be interesting.
